Duane D. Lunak, 52, Grand Forks, ND, passed away August 18, 2007 in Grand Forks.

Duane was born September 17, 1954 in Grand Forks, ND, the son of Bernard Edward and Colleen Ann (Boushee) Lunak. He graduated from Red River High School 1973. Duane married Shauna Blomquist in 1973 and together they had two children, Jeffery and Gregory.

Duane was hired onto the railroad and continued his childhood dream as a Burlington Northern engineer for 27 years.

In 1982, Duane married Cindy Parkin and together they had two children, Erica and Benjamin.

Duane was involved in and coordinated many activities for the community. He was the founder of the annual "Fun Day in the Park," which was held for area disabled children and their families. Duane served on the United Way Foundation and the Listen Center Board for many years. He took special pride in serving on the Grand Forks City Council from 1998-2002. He loved working for the people, and the community of Grand Forks held a special place in his heart.

Duane will be remembered for his love for the railroad, his music, his great sense of humor and his love for his family. He spent his extra time building model trains and taking photographs of trains. He loved the company of his dogs. Duane enjoyed spending time at the lake, traveling around the United States, and watching NASCAR. Duane will be truly missed.

Duane is survived by his four children, Jeffery (Tecla) Lunak of Ft. Meyers, Florida, Gregory (Kara) Lunak of Woodbury, MN, Erica (Brandon) Speidel and Benjamin Lunak both of Grand Forks; father and step-mother, Bernard and Doris Lunak, Branson, MO; sisters Jacque (Kirk) Seaver of Rugby, ND, Susie (Dave) Como of Detroit Lakes, MN, Lori Lunak of Grand Forks, and Cathy (Rick) Galstad of East Grand Forks, MN; brothers, Jerry (Cindy) Lunak of Keller, TX, Michael (Patty) Lunak, Grand Forks, and Patrick (Mary) Lunak, Grand Forks, and many nieces and nephews.

Duane was preceded in death by his mother Colleen Lunak.

Mass of Christian Burial: 1:00 p.m. Friday, August 31, 2007 in Holy Family Catholic Church, Grand Forks, ND.

Family Greeting: 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday in the Gregory J. Norman Funeral Chapel and one hour prior to the liturgy in the church on Friday.

Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Grand Forks, ND.
